Harlem gang members charged in connection with slay

Thirteen members of two Harlem gangs were busted on conspiracy charges in connection to gang activity and a retributive murder, prosecutors said Thursday.

The probe was sparked by the slaying of 18-year-old Jordan Barber in July 2015 outside a basketball tournament at the Polo Grounds Houses in Harlem, according to the Manhattan District Attorney.

Dejon McInnis, 41, was allegedly murdered about a year later during a spree of violence unleashed in retaliation for Barber's slaying, prosecutors said.

Members of allied gangs "Fast Money" and "Nine Block" allegedly butted heads in a bloody feud with "2 Deep" and "OYG" from neighboring sections of Harlem, authorities said.

Charges include eight shootings, as well as slashings, gang assault and robberies, prosecutors said.

Tavares Gaston, 19; Tyreke Singleton, 18, and Marques McGeachy, 18, face a second-degree murder rap in McInnis' shooting, prosecutors said.

"No one was safe from the defendants' attempts to exact revenge and assert their dominance, including innocent bystanders and NYCHA residents with no involvement in gang activity," Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr. said in a statement.

The case is an offshoot of a June 2016 bust in which 37 alleged gang members were indicted for conspiracy and related counts.

Charges include conspiracy, attempted murder, robbery, possession of stolen property, gang assault and related counts.
