The New Balance 1500 hasn’t been in wide supply in the early part of the 2017. Yet with spring in full swing the American footwear brand returns the shoe with a paster centric Easter pack.

Rendered in mint green and pink salmon, the lightly hued collection is fashioned in shade fabrication with Made in England craftsmanship in tow. Grab the New Balance 1500 “Easter” Pack now at international retailers like Hanon.

‘Jewel’ Swoosh Air Force 1’s are back and hot again. Like all things old in sneakers, this particular pair of Uptowns are new again to a generation removed from its origins.

NikeLab is bringing back the shoe the right way with premium construction in Low and Mid variations. Vachetta Tan leather blankets the Bruce Kilgore designed silhouette joined with jewel Swoosh branding, matching laces and a strap where the Mid is concerned.

Look for the NikeLab Air Force 1 “Jewel” at Nike soon.

Rappers Start Beef With Sneaker Store on Social Media

Owner fires back with passionate response.
BY BRENDAN DUNNE
APR 6, 2017
SHARE TWEET

New York rap vets Jadakiss and Styles P have been airing their grievances with independent sneaker chain Social Status on Instagram and Twitter over the past two weeks, registering complaints of poor customer service. But the store's owner, James Whitner, says its manager followed proper procedures, and that the rappers were upset about not being able to buy limited product early.

According to Whitner, Jadakiss is a frequent customer at the Social Status store in Charlotte, North Carolina. He says the rapper came by on March 24, mentioning that he was leaving town the next morning and wanted to come shop at the store before his departure. Whitner says the store manager agreed to let Jadakiss and his entourage in early the next morning, but mentioned that they wouldn't be allowed to buy the "Master" Air Max 1, a coveted Nike style that shoppers lined up to buy.

Come the next morning, they were asking for the "Master" Air Max 1s. Whitner says Social Status' manager refused, despite being heckled by the rapper's entourage.

"We got kids outside. The kids camped out back all night," Whitner tells Sole Collector. "The kids are now going crazy 'cause they think we're selling Jadakiss shoes early, and in all actuality we're not. So, one of the people on my team went out and said, 'Listen, we're not selling them any shoes early.'"

A rep for Jadakiss did not immediately respond to a request for a comment. In an Instagram post on March 25 though, Jadakiss and Styles P say they understood not being able to buy the shoes, but felt they were treated poorly.

The duo posted a video the next day praising the Social Status store in Raleigh.

"Social Status, we all good now," Styles P says at the end of the clip.

After seeing the post from the Raleigh store, Whitner was surprised to find the rappers disparaging his business on social media again almost two weeks later. In the below tweet, posted on Thursday, the duo is seen giving Social Status the thumbs-down.

Jadakiss Social Status Sneaker Store

Despite the social media shots sent at Social Status, Whitner is sticking with his conviction to serve regular customers first over celebrities. It's those customers, he says, who mean more to him than any rapper co-sign. "Kids sleep in the rain and all the elements for these shoes, and we're supposed to grant [celebrities] access for stuff the kids line up for days for? They're disrespecting everything that this is built on."

UPDATE 4/6: Jadakiss sent out a new tweet saying that the previous tweet criticizing Social Status was sent out in error. The rapper says the issue was taken care of the same day it happened. His tweet from Thursday criticizing Social Status has been deleted.

March was a big month for the Tinker Hatfield designed Nike Air Max 1. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the shoe re-released in its OG colorways while also appearing with 3/26 stamped on the tongue to signify the holiday made largely in its honor.

But for the remainder of spring/summer its business as usual for the Air Max 1. In fact, this women’s Pinnacle edition is doused in shades of purple and pink with perforations seen through much of the upper. Smooth nubuck construction provides space for the ventilation while the remainder of the body sees an infusion of leather. The look is finished with an off-white midsole.

Expect the Nike Air Max 1 Pinnacle “Bleached Lilac” sometime in May.

This Friday another Nike Air More Uptempo is landing in stores and it may be one of the better pairs to drop this year (thus far).

After the release of the “Bulls” colorway this past weekend, April 14th holds court for the Black/Reflective Uptempo launch. Predominately coated in black with reflective “AIR” branding at the paneling, the release doesn’t look to be extremely limited as a ton of Foot Locker stores are reporting they’ll have stock this Friday. Give the Launch Locator a look below to see where you can grab your pair of the Nike Air More Uptempo Black/Reflective this weekend.

APR 11, 2017

Premium pairs of the Air Jordan 5 were prominent last year and look to be very promising in 2017. Yet even with the upcoming launch of the “Pure Platinum” pair later this summer, Jordan Brand isn’t just releasing the 27-year old silhouette in luxury options, this White/Cement pair is very much of a traditional sporting sentiment.

Featuring a fundamental white leather base like many Air Jordan 5’s before it, where this pair differentiates itself is with cement print along the midsole and at the eyelets. A black tongue with red Jumpman branding corresponds with a black midsole splatter which resides atop a translucent outer.

This Is How Big Air Jordans Were When They First Came Out

Article from 1985 captures early Jordan mania.
BY BRENDAN DUNNE

While it took many years for Air Jordans to become the cultural force that they are today, the sales were strong from the start. A 1985 Chicago Tribune article (unearthed via this Medium post) describes in detail Nike's early expectations and results for the line.

Nike was projecting to move between 3 and 4 million pairs of the Air Jordan 1 in the shoe's debut year, with early orders and sales reaching over $55 million. The article mentions a targeted rollout for the sneakers that began on April 1 in six cities prior to July 1's wider release.

The piece is very much of its era—an unnamed Nike spokesperson in it compares the success of Jordans to that of Cabbage Patch dolls—and has some subtle context about a time before the widespread acceptance of sneakers as everyday wear.

"A lot of people obviously are wearing Air Jordan for basketball footwear," an adman working with Nike on the shoes says, "but we're also finding that the shoe is not being worn exclusively playing the sport but rather as a 'hip' shoe as something fashionable."

These numbers apparently far exceeded Nike's anticipations—the Tribune says the brand expected to sell 100,000 pairs of Air Jordans in the line's first year. The brand would go on to flood the market with Air Jordan 1s after the shoe's initial success, causing them to go from wait-listed items to clearance rack regulars.

Jordan Brand is showing no signs of slowing down on original Air Jordan 1s and the next to be released is the "Metallic Red" colorway. Just last month, a first look at the sneakers surfaced, but now Foot Locker's Release Calendar is confirming the date.

Previously released in 2009 using Jumpman branding, the "Metallic Red" Air Jordan 1 returns in OG form to join last year's "Metallic Blue" pair. The white-based sneakers feature red accents throughout, with a metallic patent leather being used on the ankle collar and Swoosh. An extra set of red laces will also be included.

Hopefully Jordan Brand eventually releases the OG metallic Air Jordan 1 set in entirety, but for now, fans can expect the "Metallic Red" colorway to release on May 6. Retail prices are set at $160 for men and $120 for grade school.

It's only been four years, but Jordan Brand may be gearing up for another "Taxi" Air Jordan 12 re-release.

According to Sneaker Files, the classic will be back as a quickstrike this December, meaning pairs will be a little more limited than usual. Originally released in 1996, the shoe sports a ribbed white leather upper, with textured black leather overlays and gold-plated hardware. Michael Jordan wore this pair during the Chicago Bulls' pursuit of championship number five.

As of now, an official release date hasn't been announced

While many are still scrambling to find pairs of the OG “Silver Bullet” Air Max 97, Nike is on to the next. And if you’ve been paying attention, you know what “next” regarding this 20th anniversary Air Max means.

That’s right, the Nike Air Max 97 “Metallic Gold” is next up to bat. The favored colorway sans the OG is set to release in men’s, women’s and kid’s sizes on May 18. Plan accordingly and take an official look at the GS pair below.
