Don't forget L.A county in the early 90s had over 2000 homicides, think it was more like 2500 or something else super high.

Ima go with detroit. Ny, la, miami, chicago, etc might have had the worse neighborhoods but as far as actual entire whole dangerous city ima go with either detroit or camden. Or one of them lil forgotten midwest cities in michigan or missouri.

I think I read somewhere, maybe even on here, that the all-time peak number for yearly total homicides was Houston in '80 or '81

If I had to guess, off the top of my head without doing any research, maybe Detroit in the 80s and/or 90s, or New Orleans in the mid/late 90s or early 2000s. You could throw in Gary (Ind.) and East St. Louis (Ill.) as far as smaller cities, maybe Camden, N.J., too.

As far as Houston, people forget how gutter that city was back in the 80s. Houston in the 80s was probably as dangerous as the N.O. was in the late 90s/early 2000s. Houston didn't calm down til around the mid 90s. People talked about the Fifth Ward back in the day like they talk about Englewood in Chicago, Anacostia in D.C., the 3rd and 9th Wards in New Orleans, Brownsville in Brooklyn, etc....the worst of the worst.

Brolic, I don't know about all-time peak, but Houston was the murder capital of America in 1981. The number was 701 homicides.

All good input from everyone. Any of them cities yall mentioned went super hard. But I still say NYC in the 70s and early 80s cuz ththem hoods was gutter as fuck. I also still say 80s miami was the most dangerous because in Miami shit just wasnt poppin off in the hood. Them drug lords down there was goin at it all over the city and the middle class and rich neighborhoods was getting shot up as much as the ghettos. I dont think any other city can say they was ever like that where you was just as likely to get shot in a neighborhood full of million dollar homes as you was in the hood. shot in a neighborhood fill

Miami got it in, NO gets it in, but NY 5 different cities combined in to one, I would break New York up

NY separated by water. Its pretty much 5 cities combined in to 1 Brooklyn alone the size of Chicago

Hoodprophet actually has a good point about dividing nyc up into different sections. They call em burroughs but each burrough is about the size of chi anyway. Queens Brooklyn and Manhattan are all huge on their own. And i was forgetting about DC. Dc definetly got it in back then.

As far as chi goes chi is both the safest big city and the most dangerous bug city in america at the same time. If you gangbangin chi is by far the most dangerous. But if you aint you aint got shit to worry about here. Chi is safer than other cities in the sense that gangbangin is the only hustle here. But if you bangin its worse than l.a.

Chicago has bad pockets of area, that is why I don't compare it with smaller towns. You can be up in Wriglyville or Gold coast and not see a damn ounce of gang activity. Its those pockets out west and out south where shit is crackin. Its a while nother world.

That's why you can't compare Chicago or any big city to a camden St Louis or New Orleans cause those spots the size of hoods in Chicago, but Chicago overall a bigger city with a downtown, lake, and good middle class rich neighorhoods.

When NY had over 2,000 murders. Chicago had almost 2 times the per capita of NY with only and had a slightly higher per capita then la in 92

But I didn't know about Houston in 81, someone from houston should shed some light on that.

DC and Miami get overlooked, but you could argue miami was the most dangerous at the time

Not from Houston, but here you go

News article talks about how bad Houston was back in the 1950s and late 70s

Houston’s Murder Rate Lowest In Four Decades (2012 article-mentions 1981's record of 701 homicides at end of article)

Broomlyn the only boro the size of chicago. Manhatten small and the bronx the size of philly. We basically 5 cities in 1. Any smaller city gonna have a higher per capita based on math alone thats why with huge cities like chicago, ny, and la u gotta go by neighborhoods but even then majority of ny residents even in the worse hoods dont bang so they get left alone which screws the math too cause its only a tiny fraction of the same ol niggas doin all the shooting and its mostly at each other.

Suprised you said that :2cents:

East Garfield park in Chicago was having almost 100 homicides a year and the population was only 30,000 people. Compare that to the "most dangerous city" East St Louis which has 30,000 and 20-25 homicides a year.
