Man imprisoned for knifing alleged drug dealer

LOCKPORT - Daniel F. Hunt of Niagara Falls, who knifed a man Hunt's attorney called a drug dealer, was sentenced to two to four years in state prison today by Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas.


The complainant was stabbed in the hand, elbow and torso in a Dec. 14 robbery attempt. Defense attorney Dominic Saraceno said the victim "went to a drug addict's house to sell pills. You assume the risk when you're in that line of work that something like that is going to happen. I don't have a lot of sympathy for the victim."


Hunt, 36, of 79th Street, had pleaded guilty to attempted third-degree robbery. Farkas recommended him for the state's secure drug treatment facility, even though she said Hunt is not legally eligible because of the nature of the crime. Saraceno said sometimes the prison system makes exceptions.
